Pappinbarra Landholders Conservation Group
Pappinbarra Landholders Conservation Group (PLCG) is a small incorporated association of landholders established in 2012. We gather two-monthly at member properties on a rostered basis to carry out strategic on-ground works to help foster our vision of a “A resilient, healthy and productive landscape in the Pappinbarra Valley.”
We’ve completed over 4,500 hours of on-ground work, primarily weeding and planting to restore and enhance native habitat in riparian (waterway) areas. We’ve also done thousands of hours of other work including organisational administration, running community workshops (15 to date), writing and implementing two grants (from Local Land Services in 2014 and Landcare in 2021), installing nest boxes and designing and producing the wildlife display boards at Hollisdale Hall.
Our working bees are a celebration of rural life. We gather in the morning – early or late depending on the season – receive our work briefing from the landholders, and work for 4 hours with a tea break in the middle. Tired and satisfied we then sit down for a potluck lunch of delicious country fare, often made with produce from our gardens, followed by our regular formal meeting. The rewards of this kind of community cooperation are enormous - the knowledge sharing, mutual support, pleasure in helping others, friendship, and of course the conservation outcomes that help this beautiful Valley flourish as a vibrant place for farming and for wildlife.
We’ve built up a wealth of knowledge and experience – both in terms of the mechanics of running the group and bush regeneration practice – and would be delighted to share it. We welcome visitors to our working bees. We’re also happy to host a meeting at the Hall if people are interested in setting up their own group.
